Phiny's Cheese Steak

Hello!! I have been trying to write this entry for about a month. I've been terribly remiss in taking care of this blog. But I'm back and I hope you enjoy!

As you may know I am a Philly gal.  And when you think of Philly, you can't help but think of the Philly Cheese steak. There's quite a few institutions where you can get yourself one of these delicious treats - Pat's, Gino's, Jim's, Tony Luke's and probably a few more here and there. Well as you would have it, it was my birthday last month and I had the pleasure of eating at a lovely steak restaurant. After the dinner I ended up with leftover steak. And as you may already know, warming up leftover steak, as delicious and fancy as it is to begin with, is always a disappointment. So I thought, what better an idea than to make cheese steak! Of course this is quite a decadent way to make this, and you can use any sort of beef cuts to make it if you wish. You won't believe how simple this is. And since you get to add whatever items you wish, you can make it as healthy as you would like! You know you want to make this!

Ingredients:

Onion
Green Pepper
Mushroom
Steak (any cut of beef)
Cheese
Hoagie Roll
Banana Peppers
Ketchup
Hot Sauce

Step 1: Slice the mushroom, green pepper and onions

Step 2: Heat a pan, add a bit of olive oil and when hot, add onions, green peppers, and mushrooms

Step 3: While the veggies are cooking, slice the beef into very thin strips. Since I am using leftover steak, this has obviously been cooked. If you are starting with raw beef, you'll follow the same steps, but you will end up cooking the beef a bit longer when it comes to it.

Depending on whether you are using cooked or raw beef, you'll adjust how long you initially cook the veggies.
Step 4: With raw beef, only let the veggies cook partially and add the beef in to cook along with the veggies. With cooked leftovers, let the veggies cook pretty much all the way through and add the beef to let it heat through. Either way it will be a very short cooking time since the beef is so thinly sliced.

Step 5: Meanwhile, slice the hoagie rolls and toast for a minute on the stove

Step 6: You can use your favorite cheese, whether that's cheese whiz, cheddar, pepper jack, colby or cream cheese. Not sure about that last one though. Regardless, if it's not already shredded, you'll want to shred it.

Step 7: After the bread's been toasted, layer the bottom with cheese

Step 8: Next layer the hoagie with the meat and veggie mixture. I also added some banana peppers on top. Trust me, it's a good choice

Step 9: This is a picture to show you I drizzled the steak with some hot sauce

Step 10: Finally, layer on a good amount of ketchup.

And voila. Your steak sandwich sir or madam! Enjoy!

  4. any cut of steak, sliced really really thin would work. but in order of best in my opinion, it would be filet/tenderloin, then ribeye. cheaper option is sirloin tip. good luck! tell me how it turns out!
